btw in America it actually costs more in time and gas as well as work to recycle cans like you do in Germany if it's even an option in your American area. in my childhood? yeah it was worth it but these days the time it takes to gather, bring the cans, feed them all through just isn't worth the 5 bucks or less

In Finland we just do this and get money from it. When buying a bottle or a can you pay 10-25 cents and when recycling it at the store u get the money back. And if u collect other people’s cans you can just make money.😁

Fun fact: crushing your cans actually hurts recycling instead of helping it. Once flattened, the sorting machines often mistake the thin shape for paper or cardboard instead of metal, so it gets routed into the wrong pile. That mix-up contaminates the batch, making the entire load of recycled paper harder to process, most times so much that the whole thing just gets tossed into the landfill instead of recycled.
