Those big books always fall apart like that, especially when they’re in kids’ hands and aren’t being taken care of. Some books are actually designed with floating spines, so you have to know which kind you’re dealing with. If you can see that there was glue on the spine originally, then it’s supposed to be glued and you can repair it with the Cover One. If it’s a true floating spine, you don’t glue the spine down. You just use hinge tape and a little bit of glue where the hinge starts, and it should be good as new. The easiest way to tell is that books that are supposed to be glued will lay flat when they’re opened, while books with floating spines are not supposed to lay completely flat.
