this is a stitch weld. they weld the sides and leave the top and bottom open to keep water from potentialy getting trapped due to condensation or if there would be a pinhole that space would fill with water and if in a cold climate freeze and break. leaving top and bottom open is more than sufficient for what is supposed to hold and safer

It is welded exactly as it should be. A transverse weld on the tube is omitted because this allows the structure to better withstand dynamic loads.👍

If you weld across something structural like that, the heat creates a weak point and could be likely to crack, that’s why it’s only welded along length ways

If you weld across a tube like that, the possibility of the tube cracking across is higher. Sides are structure related across is for decorative or for sealing purposes. That is totally fine and strong.

A weld not running continuously from end to end does not automatically mean it’s unsafe. Intermittent/stitch welds are used all the time in structural fabrication when a continuous weld isn’t required by the design. They can reduce heat input, distortion, and residual stress while still providing the required strength. Now, whether this specific weld is good or bad can’t really be judged from one TikTok close up without knowing the material, joint design, load, weld procedure, and inspection requirements. But it isn’t fully welded, therefore the ride is unsafe is not how engineering works.

I’d be more worried if it was welded across there. Heat fraction zone. Same as car chassis bud. Never weld across structural hollow sections
