The amount of larpers here are crazy. First of all, he joined in the middle of a “losing” match and that’s why he moved his king first. Secondly this is just regular chess and not shogi since the show wants to reflect European imperialism and chess is a western game. Third of all, any fan should know these basic and even the chess game they’re playing. In which lelouch could win in like 6 moves, the only dumb thing about this scene is the fact that it takes Lelouch so long to find it. But then again in this series chess is used as symbolism and shouldn’t be taken so seriously

for the larpers, moving the king was LL's first move during the game BUT he joined the game in the middle of it as he took over for another person. so the game was already underway and the pieces were all over the board but LL'S FIRST MOVE WAS THE KING
