@monicaumunna: When your husband finally finds the courage to tell you what’s on his heart, you have to be able to listen without immediately defending yourself, bringing up what he did, or turning the conversation back onto you... Because if someone has spent years feeling unheard, you can’t rebuild that trust with one conversation. You rebuild it through consistent action 🙏🏼 You listen. You let him finish. You regulate your emotions. You stop moving the goalposts. You stop making every conversation about what you need to say. And yes, sometimes you have to bite your tongue 🤪 Not because your feelings don’t matter, but because this conversation isn’t about you. There will be a time to have your conversation. Initiate it. Tell him what hurt you. Ask for accountability. But when your husband is finally opening up to you, let him have the whole conversation!!! 🫡 And when he’s finished: “I hear you.”🙏🏼 “I’m sorry.” 🫶🏼 “This is how I’m going to change.”🫡 Then let your actions prove that you meant it. Because when you’ve spent years being an unsafe place for someone to be vulnerable, you don’t get to demand trust back. You have to rebuild it ❤️🔥❤️🔥 Also please ignore my voice, I am fighting a cold 😮💨

Fellow guys, I understand the hesitation to open up. When I opened up to my ex, she either got defensive and turned it on me, or got upset and made it so I was comforting her. I’m taking the steps to open up in my new relationship and while it’s hard, it’s freeing to be with someone who actually supports and cares about your emotions. I was able to open up to my partner about being sexually taken advantage of in my last relationship and she was nothing but kind and loving. It’s hard, but worth it

I get treated like an employee when I talk about important things. I literally have to get mad for her to shut up and actually hear what I'm saying. It's exhausting.

Women like the idea of their husband opening but women don’t like their husband opening up.

I opened up to my wife once…..been with her 20 years….her reaction was upset that i told her truth about something that made zero sense y she even got upset and i told her to her face right away “ill never tell u anything important to me ever again” and i havent. And she sometimes acts like she wants me to open up to her and when she does i getup and walk out the house and leave for awhile. Nope Not happening unless we have a counseler present.

I opened up to an ex about my struggles with mental health and wanting to off myself in the past. Instead of a discussion about it we talked about how that made her feel.

this is why i hate the claim that men aren't emotionally intelligent. we are. but our partners aren't capable of receiving our emotions

Yep 100% not safe. Really hurts to know she does not care about things that are important to me. Then uses against me later.

Can't think of one time that I've opened up, and it's not been about my other half by the end of it. Now if I do anything, it will be crafted for minimal fall out. Just writing this makes me quite sad.

I’ve told my wife several times that I don’t feel safe to bring up to her. And she made it seem like it’s my problem…

A large thing you are missing is that often if men open up that will later be used against them in a fight or as a reason they lost respect for the man. Once that happens a time or two do you think most will try it again?

It took over 30 years for me to finally stop opening up to my wife. I don’t have another 30 years to wait for her to learn to be a safe space and prove it through action over and over again

It’s not worth it. Figure it out sitting in the car for 10mins before going in.
