Is he a 50/50 director, sure. But M Night is always swinging for the fences and I never have a clue of what he will come up with next and thats why Im always excited to see what hes going to do. I hated Old and i didnt like most of Trap. But Knock at the Cabin Door was one of my favs that year. I also love that he finances these movies himself so he can have control and tell the story he wants whether its great or not. He is someone who is in his own realm of filmmaking. Even though I hate his awkward close up shots lol
