you are being overly reductive. the two stories are focusing on completely different things. One based on a character being flawed and trying to be a better person. the other is the standard hero trope. Rudeus is never presented as the classical hero nor does his motivations go to saving the world. His is a one step forward two steps back story. Arthur is typical perfect good guy trying to save the world. Arthur is focused on overcoming the enemy. Rudeus is focused on overcoming himself.
