Writing by quill is not difficult with some practice and study of penmanship. I already had a strong background in writing cursive but the key to the quill is the lack of downward pressure. Let the ink glide with gravity from the nib rather than force your will upon the page. Studying handwriting of the time period gave me an appreciation for my ancestors, it is easier to flick off the tail of the D’s than force the rounded stroke to connect to the next letter, and, to have strong downward strokes and minimal height in M’s N’ U’s and W’s made writing quicker.
