Her phrasing is absolutely horrendous, but she is correct. My sister just got her license in social work, and she does not wear any of her jewelry nor the designer handbag I gave her. Obviously it’s not appropriate to show up to work in clothing/accessories that may be worth their monthly/annual salary.

I think her wording is being taken out of context and what she means is she can’t show up in designer clothing as a social worker which is something probably discussed in school. I think people just need to go easier on her and give the benefit of the doubt every now and then

her wording is terrible but its moreso that its better to look casual and more approachable with populations that may have mistrust in systems and experience power differentials. someone is more likely to be a more casual and potentially safer presence in jeans and a casual top than someone who's prim and proper wearing a suit
