New research from the University of Melbourne just found that hostile attitudes toward women are the single strongest predictor of violent extremism in young Australians. Not race. Not religion. Not nationalism. Misogyny. Of everything measured, hostile views toward women were the single strongest predictor of support for violent extremism. 31.8% of young people surveyed believed that attempts to give equal opportunities to women in Australia have gone too far. More than 17% of all Australians agree that feminism should be resisted with violence. 25 to 30% of boys aged 13 to 17 expressed agreement with various forms of violent extremism. 40% of teenage boys believe women lie about domestic and sexual violence. Terrified is an understatement.
