@stratavant: SUPERSONIC AVIATION UPDATE: Boom Supersonic is approaching one of the most important propulsion tests in the development of its Overture supersonic passenger aircraft. New reporting from Aviation Week says Boom is nearing completion of the prototype high-pressure core for its purpose-built Symphony turbofan, with ground testing expected to begin at the company’s Watkins, Colorado facility within roughly two months. The approximately 12-foot-long core brings together the high-pressure compressor, combustor and turbine—the heart of the engine. Boom has already completed component and ignition testing, and the upcoming integrated-core campaign is expected to generate data for continued development of the complete Symphony powerplant. IMPORTANT: This is NOT yet a complete flight-ready Symphony engine. The integrated core has not completed this upcoming ground-test campaign, Symphony has not flown, and Overture flight testing remains ahead. If the core performs as designed, Boom will clear another major propulsion-development hurdle in its effort to return commercial supersonic passenger travel to the skies.
