@omnisyntra: So gestalt language processing is often described as whole-to-parts, while bottom-up processing is details-to-whole. A person can do both because one concerns language patterns and the other concerns broader perception and information processing. Neither is a complete description of someone’s mind. #GestaltLanguageProcessing #ActuallyAutistic #AutisticCommunication #NeurodivergentCommunication #AutisticVoices
I'm AuDHD and talk like this, because I'm so often misunderstood. It's like I've made an art out of taking every potential red herring out of my points, (or correcting them midstream.) I just know when someone is going to twist or capitalize on something I said, a way I framed things, so I'm extra careful.

This is how I speak. I over explain and sometimes speak in circles to others. I notice that we also tend to leave much longer comments in social media.

I tend to use analogies that are relational often to explain my point to others because that’s how ppl can understand me. Saying the plain thing is almost always misunderstood and it’s really odd to me how that happens

You sound like you’re also metacognitive. Same. I was only diagnosed autistic a few months ago.

Is this like how I can learn phrases in language faster, but I agonize when having to learn the individual words/genders? I’m not understanding exactly. Can I get an example??

My son is autistic and partly verbal, and it’s made me very aware that both of us are Gestalt language processors. It’s so interesting as a parent and teacher.

I’m not sure if I have this, but I struggled with learning read and I distinctly remember a moment where I felt like I floated above the whole idea of reading and suddenly I could read. When the steps to reading were broken down I couldn’t even focus on what I was being told. Then in an instant the entire concept clicked and I understood what to do. I was 7 - so a bit late. I then thought I was dumb bc of it. Later, I became a decent writer in school and was put into a program for gifted writers. My brain still works like this!!

My kiddo I work with is a GLP and I see him a lot trying so hard to feel heard with his language and he tries so hard to be fluid with it (and he’s doing fantastic doing it on his own). But i always hear and understand him, even if it’s not clear just yet. but always working on language that will help him feel heard and understood by everyone.

This is really breaking my brain…. This is how I think, speak, I am feeling like I’m rapidly trying to hunt through words to string them together and I have to pause, rewind, speak slowly, laugh, use disclaimers, go in circles, over explain, trying to get my thoughts out takes so much effort
