Hannibal was a straight-up demon. I would argue that he was on Napoleon's level of military strategist. The only problem is that he did not come from a martial culture. Rome was a martial culture, Macedonia was, and so was France. Carthage was good but not at that level. It was more aristocratic. If Hannibal had a better machinery, I think he would have not only destroyed Rome, but have conquered the known world like Alexander. Biggest what-ifs in history.
