thank you daktari for pointing out 2 things. 1. elnino is not rainfall and 2. the indian ocean dipole plays a role in modulating elnino. i did not know the iod role.

so the pacific is like a husband who sends his wife( the indian ocean) suggestive mesages, and if she happens to be ovulating ( on heat) there will be resultant wet conditions.
