Agree with ya. Idk what marvel fans smoke in the comments, but marvel heavily relies on fans reactions in recent years. The whole no way home and wolverine x deadpool was a fan service and nothing more. Except no way home at least had some consequences

I don't remember the theater getting excited for Thor aiming for Thanos' head. It was meaningless, Thanos already succeeded. To me it was more like Thor saying to himself "this is how I should have done it but at least I can do it now"

When I say that marvel rushed Dr Doom and didn’t build up to him at all, the response I usually get from MCU fans is, “the films are called Doomsday and Secret Wars. Are you a comic larper? Because it’s obvious Dr Doom is gonna be the villain from the announcements.” It’s a baffling way to consume media. Because I obviously mean the films themselves do nothing to build up to Dr Doom, but people are treating D23 announcements on the same level as watching the movies

Fan service is what FANFICTION and FAN ART are for. A thriving fandom creates their own fan service, and THAT'S what keeps people continuously engaged and invested in the world and characters in their own time outside of film screenings. If canon fulfills all the demand for fan service itself, fan engagement ends when the movie does because the fandom has no boxes left to tick and no itches left to scratch.

Totally agree and they made it even worse by making the Disney+ shows. Not that I didn't enjoy most of those. But they're asking a lot of audiences and at this point, they're just making these movies for the die-hards who are still committed to the MCU.

The Thor example doesn’t work cause it builds on Thor’s arc. The god of thunder who and heir to throne for once can’t do anything. He lost everybody most of this in the last 2 weeks. His whole mission in infinity war was to avenge them and he failed. Him going for the head in endgame is meant to show how powerless Thor is now.

That “going silent” experience for me was watching Infinity War in theaters opening weekend. Packed audience, and you could hear a pin drop during the credits. We were STUNNED!

I didn't watch Endgame in theaters so idk my experience was less impacted by the high of seeing it with a huge crowd and I was able to see a lot of the flaws early on, because I wasn't as invested in an atmosphere of hype.

Your comment about the 22 movies finally coming to something rings pretty well, and to use the fertilizer metaphor again, I feel that those fanservice moments should be a fruitful crop, and the fertilizer should be the previous movies leading up to them. As it is now, they are adding more fertilizer at every stage of growth while also trying to take fruit from the vine before its ripe. Theres a lot fewer red tomatoes while the rest are still green or yellow and undersized.

I was in England watching endgame & even in my cinema when CA picks up the hammer there was audible claps & cheers. It was bizzare for a country that only laughs at appropriate moments in a cinema & otherwise silent.

I know this has been talked about for years but my biggest thought similar to this video is that I can’t stand to watch No Way Home again because of how blaringly obvious the dramatic pauses are when Toby and Andrew come in. They just stand and pose there in silence for multiple seconds… it just completely takes me out of the film because it doesn’t flow anymore. In the cinema it worked because the audience filled the gap, which was obviously the purpose, but without no roaring crowd, it just falls flat now

this is not a recent thing though, I worked in a cinema in 2004 and remember the screams, cries and shouting that came from the screen during The Passion of the Christ, one lady even shouted out "No, not Jesus, leave him alone", there were similar scenes during the Star Wars prequels too

Honestly as an Australian, this cheering in the cinema and clapping at the credit feels.... dumb. To me an applause and cheer is for the performers and beyond a premiere or red carpet they aren't there. Like I watch a movie for the same reason I read a book but yall seem to watch movies now like its a sports match and thats just, not what cinema is.

I agree, and think it's also messing with other movies, too. I really liked Alien: Romulus, there was a lot of cool stuff in there, and the premise of the station being that they were studying the original Xeno was interesting. But, man, did I not need the anxious android to butcher his way through Ellen Ripley's most iconic line, at a moment that *didn't need it at all*. Fede Alvarez did a fantastic job, and the fan service in the first half was great, just to be absolutely *forced* in the second half.
