Not to mention, Alchemy in this anime is more like science than magic. The Alchemist need to learn the element reactions and transmutations like how scientist/chemist learn about elemental reaction. And then condensed that knowledge into their alchemy transmutation circle. The reason why Edward can do so many alchemic things was because he already acquired all the knowledge from the "Door" by exchanging it with one of his leg. Then also exchanged his right arm for his brother's soul to bind it into a suit of armor. That's also the reason why Alphonse should've had more knowledge than Edward cuz he got his entire body's worth of knowledges from the "Door".

In order to even use Flame Alchemy you must understand the science of it you can't just put the glove on and do it thats why Roy makes the symbol on his hand because it controls the oxygen mathematically and the glove is specifically called "ignition cloth" used to make sparks with an snap so like if Ed wanted to use Flame Alchemy he can't because he nevered studied it but if he did technically with the truth he could just clap, adjust the oxygen in the air, and use a regular spark (like a lighter) to ignite it but honestly he could use his metal arm and create an spark by hitting his metal leg
