And the stats on what teenagers are doing to hide it are pretty shocking… I’ve just been talking to Dr Alex George about the hidden impact dandruff can have on teenage confidence - and it’s so much more than a few flakes. Research for Scalp Health Month by Head and Shoulders showed that - Among teens who have experienced dandruff: 😳 50% check their appearance in a mirror or camera significantly more often 💇 38% have changed their entire hairstyle to mask flakes 🖤 28% avoid dark clothing so flakes aren’t noticed 🧢 23% wear hats, hoods or headscarves more often to hide away And there’s another problem: 21% of parents mistakenly believe dandruff is caused by poor hygiene. It isn’t. It’s linked to natural biological changes and the scalp microbiome - but that stigma can make an already difficult confidence issue even harder for teenagers. We also talked about the minefield of TikTok, unverified DIY beauty hacks and the importance of knowing what’s fact and what’s fiction… Dr Alex also opened up about his own experience and we talked about the pressure young people face from TikTok, social media and the endless stream of wellness advice online.
