There aren’t enough adjectives. Or adverbs. Or maybe there just aren’t enough words. Trey was absolutely incredible in his first musical. His performance was phenomenal. His voice is breathtaking. The entire production was superb. To say I’m proud would be the understatement of a lifetime. To say he deserves every good thing that’s coming his way still barely scratches the surface. The world is truly his oyster. He is wildly talented, deeply humble, and has one of the kindest hearts you’ll ever encounter. I was lucky enough to be there on opening night. I had tickets for the final performance too, but I donated them so someone else could experience what I had already witnessed. After the show, people kept asking, “Who did you come to see?” “I’m Trey’s stepmom.” Every single time the response was the same. “He’s so talented.” “He’s such a sweetheart.” “He’s just the best.” And every single time, all I could think was, I know. It had been 2,011 days between Trey’s first seizure and opening night. Two thousand and eleven days of fighting with his body. Compromising with his life. Setting parts of himself aside so he could protect his health. And then slowly, patiently, courageously fighting to get his life back. Opening night wasn’t just a musical. It was Trey reclaiming something that illness tried to convince him he’d lost. It was joy taking up space again. It was possibility standing center stage. And if this is only the first act, I cannot wait to see where life takes him next. ❤️ @Trey🤵🏾🎤 I love you beyond words. You are such an inspiration. Thank you for being you. I’m excited for the world to get to know you too. ❤️
