@perth.local: Say hola to a NEW Mexican restaurant in South Freo. 🌮🇲🇽 On the hunt for another Mexican feast, we just visited @Hecho en Mexico that recently opened on the bustling South Terrace. Whilst they’re new to Perth, this popular restaurant brand started serving Mexican food in Melbourne back in 2013 and today has 30+ restaurants across the country. The South Fremantle location being their first in WA. After assessing the huge menu, we began with the fun Make-Your-Own-Guac. 🥑 Handing us the avocado, lime, pico de gallo and Tajín and saying “go for it” is genius - we smashed and mixed to create our own unique flavour, then devoured it with corn chips and salsa. Then came the Birria Quesa Tacos - deep-fried, soaked in consomé, filled with shredded beef and Oaxaca cheese - genuinely one of the better tacos we’ve had in Perth. We also worked through the Baja Hoki, Fried Chicken and Yucatán-style Pork Tacos, plus the Birria Ramen (yes, that’s a real thing here, and yes, it works), sizzling Chicken Fajitas and the Mexican Parmi - either an act of culinary chaos or the most Australian thing to ever happen to a chicken breast. On the drinks side, we chose classic with a Margarita and a Passionfruit Marg - both dangerously easy to drink. There are plenty more cocktails to choose from, as well as cerveza and wine for anyone keen to explore further. Somehow, we still had room for the sizzling brownie - a hot chocolate brownie topped with melted chocolate, strawberries and vanilla ice cream. A great way to finish! We visited on a Tuesday, which meant $5 tacos, plus happy hour runs from 12pm-6pm Monday to Friday.
