@spcasingapore: With temperatures soaring and the PSI entering the unhealthy range, it is important to look out for our pets as we take precautions for ourselves. A few simple steps make all the difference: 🐕 Limit the duration and intensity of outdoor activities, and walk during cooler parts of the day via shaded, well-ventilated routes 🚗 Never leave your pet in a parked vehicle, even briefly. Temperatures inside can climb dangerously fast 🐾 Check the ground before heading out. If you can't withstand holding the back of your hand to the pavement for five seconds, it is too hot for their paws 💧 Provide plenty of fresh, clean water within easy reach ❄️ Keep your home comfortable with fans or air coolers, remembering that ideal temperatures vary by species and breed (thick-coated pets like chinchillas and huskies do best in air-conditioning), and run an air purifier that captures PM2.5 particles 👀 Watch closely for signs of discomfort such as excessive panting, reduced appetite or a change in behaviour, and seek veterinary attention promptly. Heatstroke is a medical emergency. If you notice heavy drooling, bright red gums, vomiting or fainting, get your pet to a vet immediately. Some pets need closer attention during this period, including those with existing conditions like asthma, heart or lung issues and kidney disease, as well as flat-faced (brachycephalic) breeds and toy or miniature breeds who are more prone to breathing difficulty. And let us not forget our community animals and wildlife.
