📍 Millennium Park — Carlsbad, New Mexico After spending hours underground at Carlsbad Caverns, getting outside and taking my girls for a peaceful walk through Millennium Park was exactly what we needed. This was such a beautiful little surprise in town—green space, water, a small waterfall, and SO many geese and other waterfowl wandering around while we explored. 🪿🌿 And there’s actually a fun piece of Carlsbad history hiding here. Millennium Park was created around the turn of the millennium, and it contains a TruPac time capsule filled with items contributed by local families and organizations. The capsule was sealed on November 11, 2001, and isn’t supposed to be opened until 2101. So somewhere underneath this peaceful little park is essentially a care package waiting 100 years for future Carlsbad residents. The park is also connected to Carlsbad’s larger riverfront recreation corridor along the Pecos River, making this an easy place to turn a quick stop into a longer walk if you feel like exploring. The broader Lake Carlsbad Recreation Area alone stretches across 125.6 acres of riverfront parkland. After a day of sightseeing, I really appreciated having somewhere beautiful where the girls could stretch their legs, sniff absolutely everything, watch the birds and just enjoy being outside with me. Definitely add this to your Carlsbad list if you’re traveling with dogs—or if you simply want a pretty, peaceful walk that doesn’t require disappearing 750 feet underground first. 😂🐾 And please give the geese their space. They were beautiful, plentiful, and very clearly running park security. 🪿😂
