@hempaul: Performing antenatal perineal massage starting around 34 to 35 weeks increases pelvic tissue compliance and down-regulates involuntary muscular guarding reflexes during second-stage crowning: applying gentle, rhythmic downward and lateral stretch (using an unscented, natural oil) along the posterior rim of the vaginal opening mechanically conditions the perineal body and superficial transverse perineal muscles; holding gentle, tolerable stretch for one to two minutes enhances local microcirculation and improves connective tissue viscoelasticity; and practicing intentional slow exhalations while experiencing the stretch conditions the autonomic nervous system to relax the levator ani rather than clench against physical pressure. Incorporating this evidence-based preparation significantly reduces the risk of severe perineal lacerations, minimizes episiotomy rates, and supports faster postpartum tissue recovery. #perinealmassage #birthpreparation #laboranddelivery #pelvicfloorhealth #pregnancyeducation
