SHE WAS STOCKING SHELVES AT WALMART. HE SHOT HER WHILE SHE WAS DOWN — THEN HER BODY CAUGHT FIRE. THE MURDER OF DAKOTA NORWOOD Hammond, Indiana — November 2, 2026 Dakota Norwood was only 21 years old, working her morning shift at a Walmart in Hammond, Indiana, when a confrontation inside the store turned into a horrifying act of violence. According to newly released court documents, surveillance footage captured 22-year-old Dorian Kevon Robertson following Dakota closely around 9:00 a.m. as she stocked merchandise. For several minutes, Dakota appeared to ignore him and continued working. But Robertson reportedly refused to leave her alone. The probable cause affidavit states that Dakota eventually confronted him. Robertson pushed her stocking cart away, grabbed her, and a physical struggle followed. Dakota tried to break free. Both began exchanging punches, and during the struggle, a handgun reportedly fell from Robertson's pocket. At one point, Dakota was on top of Robertson, striking him, before another Walmart employee intervened and separated them. The fight had been broken up. But the violence was not over. According to investigators, Robertson retrieved the handgun from the floor, stood over Dakota, and opened fire. Surveillance footage reportedly showed Dakota rolling across the floor, desperately trying to avoid the bullets as Robertson continued shooting her in the upper body and legs. Then something even more horrifying happened. Court documents describe what appeared to be flames erupting from Dakota's upper body after she was shot. Investigators said the footage showed her upper body becoming engulfed in flames as she struggled to stand. She collapsed back onto the floor, and the flames went out. Dakota Norwood died inside the Walmart where she had reported to work that morning. Robertson, an Illinois resident, was arrested at the scene and charged with her murder. Dakota was only 21 years old. She was doing her job, stocking shelves, when a confrontation escalated into a deadly shooting witnessed through the store's surveillance cameras. A young woman went to work that morning. She never got the chance to clock out and return home. #TheVividFacesoftheVanished #DakotaNorwood #JusticeForDakotaNorwood #HammondIndiana #Hammond © The Vivid Faces of the Vanished Photo of suspect in comments
