i’ll never forget the way she called me handsome, the way she called me dear in her native language. the way she held me when my cat passed away. the giddy smile she would give me from across the room. the way she doubled back to kiss me again everytime she said goodbye. the way she constantly sent me random photos of her life to include me. how highly she spoke of me to her parents. how she remembered every little detail and memory we shared. the video she sent me singing my favorite song. the way her curls walked in the wind, the way they changed color in the sunlight. the sparkle in her eyes when i’d plan her favorite dates. the first anime we binged together, and how she scolded me on not paying attention. how she adored every bouquet i ever got her. how she complimented me and reassured me when i doubted myself. how intelligent and well spoken she was. the way i always fell asleep immediately when she lay next to me. the way she would talk about her childish delights and her interests. the poem she wrote and recited to me on the beach that night. the ring she gifted me off her very own finger. the time we got caught making out in the parking lot while her sister was getting her nails done inside. the time we helped the homeless man during our shopping trip. the way she’d make sure the worker got my order right because i didn’t ask. the way i admired her. cherished her. i would die for her. the way her eyes sparkled on valentine’s day when i gave her those gifts. the way she was always thankful. the long car rides home, when she’d scratch my hair and lay on my arm. the stories she’d tell me about her family. the family i never had. the way they welcomed me, and made me feel included. how kind she was to everyone, and how she never judged anyone. i wanted to be like her so badly. the way she had so many dreams and goals, ideas and hobbies. the workouts we had together, and how she pushed me to be better. the snacks she’d always bring me. the way she loved my cooking for her, even though it wasn’t great. the little spots on her arm from her psoriasis. the way she’d listen to me ramble about nerdy shit. you are my home, A. I love you. Please come back.

The first time he said it I could tell it slipped out. My brain kinda just paused there in the moment. My heart started racing and it was like the whole world stopped for just a moment. Then without even thinking I said it back.
