the idea that chess players have extremely high iqs is a myth. Garry Kasparov took an iq test and scored 135 which is still in the top 1% but no where near what people claimed he had

Hikaru Nakamura’s IQ was tested and showed a result of 102, 2 points above the global average. Magnus Carlsen refers to IQ tests as “a dumb thing to do” because he gains nothing from them. Although chess correlates to pattern recognition, it is a small amount and most chess skills are absorbed through total play time, like every other game/sport. It doesn’t define a person’s total logic and pattern recognition, that is factual.
