in Mongolia popular names are allowed to be used 250 times a year. For example, if you want to name your daughter Anu, but it has already been used 250 tines by December 20, you can wait for the new year and name her Anu because the longest time you could wait to register your baby is a month. But if it is July and the name limit is reached you must name her differently 😂😂

I'm Colombian and I honestly think something similar should be done here, I've met a girl named "Made in China" just because the parents don't understand English and they saw the writing in a lot of places, and the girl now has to live with a name that should have been banned

The committee's still there. They've loosened the rules a lot recently, particularly in regards to immigrants and the inclusion of non-binary names, but you still have to go through the committee.

The law change from 2019 you are referring to is about gender. Because in 2019 Iceland recognized non-binary gender registration. There is still a naming committee that has to approve new names. Basically, now you can have any name on either the boys’ or girls’ list of approved names, no matter your gender.

My name got rejected, luckily I have a really stubborn mom who had Icelandic professors right papers about the name and kept fighting the committee till they allowed it, ended up being old enough to tell the priest my own name at my naming

Dang, that's a lot of rules. my country has a few rules for naming a baby, but it's for administration reason. Like at least a child have 3 words in their name, first middle last name. There's no One independent letter in the name without any meaning. And no vague spelling. That way a child will have easier time whenever they deal with gov administration when they grow up

In Venezuela there is also that form of counsel, because a lot of parents use fusion of names that would be the equivalent of "thisyearsiphone" or John Wilson John spelled "yonwuilsonyon"
