me and my cousin and my mate were hiking through our town's local bush track to come back into town and it was around 11:45pm and halfway through it there was this very bad rotten smell that followed us throughout the bush and where im from which is Australia alot of us believe in the hairy man aka America's bigfoot anyways it has a smell and I didn't know at first until I researched about it the next day but anyways as we got towards the end there was a very off feeling and my buddy almost had his head taken off from something that launched a rock at him and I seen it myself and whatever it was ran through the trees and was way to big to be a human and the speed it was moving at was inhuman and yeah never again hiked through that trail again.

Went hiking with friends in the Smokies during springtime. There were many random patches of ice on the trails. Came across a particularly long stretch of ice. We were super cautious but it wasn’t enough for what followed. I slipped, my feet yeeted into the air and I landed right on my back…HARD. The SOLE reason I did not hit the back of my head was because I had my backpack on which added enough separation between my skull and the ice. All ended up with was whiplash and shock. I learned that day that dying can be super easy and that no one is invincible.

A different kind of scary. Labor Day weekend 2 miles from the trailhead our two dogs collided on the trail and the elder one went completely lifeless and stiff. RAN to the car carrying the injured one, emergency vet call, nobody could help within 90 miles. We made it in record time, Vincent was 12 at the time and had a traumatic spine and brain injury. Vet released him a few days later and said “there’s nothing more we can do, get him home and comfortable. Months of rehab and love got him back on the trail again. He turns 16 this November and has visited over 100 parks and trails ❤️Leo, the younger one, never leaves his side.

Hiking in Arizona lost track of time, it got dark fast was multiple miles in when we heard weird scary noises we high tailed it out. We could hear it keeping up with us and close until the last two miles. I’d never ran so fast in my life. When we got to our car we finally looked up the noise it was a mountain lion. I remember when we would stop to look around and my legs were just shaking with adrenaline

Went hiking in central CA with my best friend, we stopped at a lookout bench that was atop a cliff with trees and bushes behind us. We heard twigs snapping behind us slowly and assumed it was other hikers and paid no mind to it (we were young and dumb then). A few moments later the twigs very close to us snapped and we finally turned around to see what it was. We both spotted the eyes of a mountain lion peeking through the bushes. Without any hesitation we both jumped up from the bench, it inched closer and revealed itself outside of the bush. The trail back home was in the same direction as the bushes. We immediately started sprinting down the trail and heard them running behind us. I dont know how we got away but eventually it stopped running after us

Solo backpacking- hiking to my final campsite I had a gut feeling I wasn’t alone & had to get where I was going quick. Set up camp & later got out of my tent in the dark to pee. Two glowing wolf eyes were staring me down maybe 100 ft directly in front of my tent. I was in disbelief until I got back into my tent. The pack howled for awhile around me before eventually moving on. Found their prints on the trail I was on the next day. I was being stalked to my campsite. Never ignore your gut in the woods!!

Coming back just after dusk on a hike in the Rockies. There was a small lake with some ducks. All of a sudden the ducks panicked and took off. I shined my flashlight in that direction and there were 2 eyes about 2.5 feet off the ground looking back. They started slowly moving my way, no sound. It was a pretty big mountain lion. I was alone, thankfully I’m not a little guy. Made myself look big, growled and backed my way toward the cabin I was staying in. It got a little closer but stayed about 20 yards away.

Was hiking a trail near where I live a few weeks ago and had rocks thrown at me from deeper in the woods. I noped out of there. Another time I was hiking down in Florida and heard laughing like a hyena out in the jungle, but didn't see anything. I sure heard something start running at me though. I sprinted all the way to my car, which was like a mile or so.
