@red.wrench.films: ✈️ The Short SB.5 was a British research aircraft built in 1952 to investigate the highly swept delta wing configuration being proposed for what would become the English Electric Lightning. The RAE were not convinced. The data eventually proved EE right, confirming that the 60 degree sweep angle proposed for the Lightning was the correct choice and contributing directly to one of the most successful British combat aircraft of the Cold War era. Only one was built, and it survives at the Ulster Aviation Museum. #history #military #aviation
