I'd also like to add on one extra trick if it helps? My grandma always taught me that if I think I'm being followed to take four right turns or four left turns. if the person is still behind you then you are being followed. Always Immediately head to the nearest police station or crowded location but never go straight home because then they know where you live. My Grandma was around for 93 years and she was always a wise one.

I agree except the stairs....not sure that is a safe place to be alone ...I would rather step out of the elevator and wait for another one, than do the stairs/ stairwell alone

My husband is a retired Police officer/ detective. He tells my kids about posting in real time, it gives everyone the opportunity to break into your home bc they know you’re not there.

One time I was traveling alone and I checked into a hotel it was pretty big and confusing divided by buildings. When I checked in in asked the front desk guy to explain where my room was he said the number and V explained how to get there. I swear to god I get to my room and within 2-4 mins after walking into my room someone is trying to open my door very aggressively do I looked at the peephole and it was the man standing behind me at the front desk. I waited a bit to step back outside and got a new room right next to the front desk

As a former flight attendant and frequent solo traveller discovering new cities - always when I had to use a map, I listened the instructions on my headphones without watching the screen. Therefore you don’t look confused and give away that you’re new in the area. That also prevents your device to be stolen off your hands. In areas that made me feel uneasy, I shared my location right away with someone close to me until I reached the destination or back to my hotel. Even when they can’t physically protect me, it gave me a confidence that it would be alarmed if sth happens.

As someone who’s worked decades in the travel industry who travels the world solo I strongly suggest all line women travellers always book their accommodations for two people, always reserve your table at the restaurant for two people. It doesn’t cost anything extra, you’ll get a better room and table and it ensures your safety on a much greater level. I also had a terrifying experience in a hotel recently where I was locked in the stairwell. Many hotels and condos have chosen to lock all doors leading to floors from the stairs. Rock. Hard place.

Heavy on the room number. I wasn't attacked or anything but once a guy came to knock on my door to be friends. He didn't have bad intentions but it shows that people interested in you will listen.
