@itstherespawn: GOG has partnered with Big Box Collection to add interactive 3D scans of physical box art for some of its newest games. For Star Trek: 25th Anniversary, Armikrog, Descent, Hitman: Codename 47, and Myst, players can now download their physical box art as rotatable 3D models after purchase. Players will also be able to print the scans themselves so that they can create their own physical versions at no extra cost. The effort is part of the GOG Preservation Program which aims to ensure that classic games remain playable on modern systems, even after studios have stopped supporting them. ‘Physical media doesn’t survive the way software can — boxes get lost, crushed, thrown out,’ GOG said in a post. ‘Scanning them, and letting you print your own, is preservation in a different shape: the same mission that keeps these games running on modern PCs, applied to the objects they used to come in.’ #gaming #pcgaming #retrogames
