@doxquire: There’s a particular experience that comes with being Black in professional spaces—learning that sometimes what gets called “professionalism” is really an expectation to make yourself more palatable. The hair. The clothes. The way you speak. The way you show up. I’ve never believed that becoming more accomplished should require becoming less of myself. I can wear my hair proudly, put on the suit, do the work, and redefine what a lawyer is “supposed” to look like. Some things were never unprofessional.
