It's a universal thing with rivalries. People lovee an underdog. Messi and Ronaldo, off the top of my head. quite literally why Zuko had even had the chance to change is because Ozai didn't deem him as great as Azula was, even in their kid years, Azula was smarter, better and over all a protege so with that Ozai had favour her and cash aside Zuko to "find"the avatar and be with iroh
