Acts of racism now are more insidious than they are loud. Loud is easy to prove but harder to maintain while insidious is easier to maintain but harder to prove.

As soon as I heard "easement" I knew what the deal was. The Mallory family is taking folks for a ride, IMO. The state needs to confiscate that easement and make it public access.

At least you’re not jumping to conclusions and wanting receipts before making a decision.

as a local who has had to hear the most insane things from both sides... thank you for breaking it down reasonably, and logically.

Also, they bought the property knowing about the easement, then blocked it. I have an easement through my property, I can’t imagine blocking it. It would ruin my neighbors lives and they would absolutely fight me over it because what’s the alternative?!?! Could you imagine not being able to tend to your animals or get home? Not cool. Not to mention, plenty of organizations have tried to help them, they don’t want help, they want go fund me. They have multiple! There’s also a lot more on the wife under her maiden name.

Anyone else remember the white dude who wrote “Blacks Rule” on his own garage and called the news about the racism

Blocking an easement never goes well. Anyone ever watch those shows like Neighbors on HBO or Worst Neighbor Ever would know this.

Speaking from experience, as a rural-raised ⚪️person, people in rural areas get touchy about land access. Technically all the land is divided up and owned by somebody, but if soandso's land has been accessible to the neighbors for hunting/fishing/four-wheeling/whathaveyou for long enough, and that access is cut off without a damn-good, clearly-communicated reason well, that's gonna make you unpopular. And if you become unpopular with the neighbors that has consequences regardless of skin color. Now, I'm not saying racism isn't a factor here, hell if I know. But it doesn't sound like it's the only factor. The Mallerys might have also made themselves unpopular.

youre ability to analyze this situation and articulate a complicated issue it in such a simplistic manner is awesome. I wish the rest of the country was able to analyze issues half as well. ill always respectfully listen to what you have to say on issues for this reason.

this is a tough one. I think they bought the land and nearby neighbors used the land and didn't expect things to change - not just the easement. when the Mallory's put their foot down, people retaliated. But the Mallory's bit off more than they could chew (I believe they are relatively new to farming, or at least this much land) and have compromised some of their values in order to make money to keep it going.
it reminds me of the lady (also in co) who bought the house with the creek behind it that the town used and she ended up selling part of her land to the town and she's still the bad guy.

Your explanation of racism in its subtle ways is how I began years ago to understand white privilege. I learned how my dad was able to start a business and was welcomed into people's home to work. To buy a home that hugely increased in value and how his children were able to be educated. I appreciate your posts on the world from your perspective.
