I think there's a difference between questioning God's authority from a disrespectful place and questioning from a place of curiosity, humility, and wonder. It is a relationship where He knows we don't know many things. The heart behind it matters and interpreting scripture from the Holy Spirit's view is important.

When My uncle passed away my Aunt said “she can’t question God” which I understood BUT I said, you’re grieving the loss of your husband, even on the cross Jesus asked “Father, why have you forsaken me” so surely us mere mortals are going to ask questions. She was speechless as she never made the correlation that even Jesus asked God questions

To me what counters the “Don’t question God” is that Jacob literally wrestled with Him. Often times people God chooses have questioned Him, like Job, Moses for the Golden Calf, and others, questioning isn’t disrespectful as long as you aren’t trying to be malicious with it, if you question with the intention of receiving the answer and understanding then I believe God wants us to question Him on things like any good father would.

I’ve learned , yes, You can question God. It gives God the opportunity to have an intimate relationship with you while He gives you the answer. But it is up to the individual to understand that when God answers, he doesn’t answer like man. So one must pay close attention while waiting for His responses.
