More details ⤵️ 🔍 An overview of how I structure reading groups ➡️ Mixed Ability Groups (so less capable students have support form another peer if needed) ➡️ Ideally… 📖 6 groups 📖 6 stations 📖 3 activities per day 📖 15 minutes each (45 mins total) 📖 I run 4x10 min guided reading sessions (withdrawing students from different groups with a similar need) ➡️ Reading Groups 4 days per week (change activities for Wednesday/Thursday) 🧩 WHEN PLANNING ACTIVITIES, CONSIDER… ✍🏼 Will it need a lot of time marking? ✍🏼 Can students complete it independently? ✍🏼 Is it achievable within the time? ✍🏼 If they finish before the time is up, what can they do? ✍🏼 Is it a resource I can reuse, but adapt weekly? ➡️ Setting up the activities in the same ORDER and same LOCATION each week helps to develop better classroom management! For example: 1️⃣ Computers 2️⃣ Spelling 3️⃣ Writing 4️⃣ Reading 5️⃣ Game 6️⃣ Game The RED 🔴 group would ALWAYS start on computers The BLUE 🔵 group would always start in spelling That way once they understand where to start, and how to rotate (always clockwise, always in the same order), they don’t even need the timetable, and you can simply explain any new activities and how to complete them… and they’re off! 🚀 ⏰ Using the loop timer, it works like literal clock work, and if another teacher takes your class, your students know exactly how to work! 💬 If you have any questions, drop them below! 📂 If you want to see how I organise my guided reading, let me know and I can send you a photo! 🎲 If you need ideas for no prep, versatile, engaging reading group activities, let me know too! 👇🏼
