@attorneystara: #lindsayclancy juror interviews, Latarsha Sanders and empathy as a trickle down concept. The answer to inequality in empathy isn’t no empathy. It’s self discovery and thoughtful discourse about issues of race and care. #latarshasanders #MentalHealth #lawyersoftiktok

For me: I knew Latarsha sanders kids. I lived next door to her for a bit. She would sit on the back steps sometimes but I never introduced myself to her. My friends lived downstairs and their kids had parties and played in the back yard the summer of 2017. They would come over on school breaks up through December 2017. Aside from a jury and compassionate care, as a citizen it really is harder when you knew the victims. Played with them. Gave them pizza. Watched them ride bikes up and down your driveway. And even though I moved out Feb of 2018 (right before this happened) it’s never not going to be something I think about. This is just for me. Idk if it’s honestly a case I can contribute to in a compassionate way. My friends son was 6 and played with la’son. It was a tough time. He didn’t get it. My friend went outside that night and said it was horrible. So knowing the victims, interacting with them the yr prior makes, for me, the compassion aspect even harder. For me. That’s a personal issue I probably need to work through. But man, it’s really hard. The kid loved Spider-Man. He was rather quiet. He would politely ask questions and spoke with a cute lisp. He tilted his head back when he laughed. His brother Marlon was more reserved, didn’t interact with adults as much. At least with us I can’t say that for family. It’s still something I’ve thought about until this day. I almost regret feeling like something was slightly off and not doing something.

The latest nbc interview with Reddington shows Lindsay does know what going on and she hates that Patrick is getting lies spread about him

Two women, different Journey’s, same outcome. Access and knowledge aren't protective against psychosis itself they only change what story gets told about you afterward. Sanders lack of a paper trail let the prosecution frame her as simply evil. Clancy's abundance of a paper trail let the prosecution frame her as manipulative, doctor shopping. Neither narrative is really about what was happening in either woman's brain but both are about what's easiest to prosecute.

The Latarsha case is so sad. She didn’t have the resources that Lindsay had. She was very obviously in psychosis but the DA said she was “playing the crazy card.” They also mentioned the law and order episode just like in the Andrea Yates case

I think shes arguing with you when its difference of opinion because end of the day i flat out disagree with your position on what should happen to Lindsey because my views and values align with the fact that insanity should only be used for reversible damage not murder or rape. otherwise it should not exist and should go back to death penalty. so arguing back with me wont work because we flat out disagree on the trial existing to begin with which is basically whats happening between you and that commenter. they have experienced or have views aligning with racial influence and your dismissing them under the idea that compassion is a good card to play ... it ls a fantastic card to play but it should not of been played. period.

They could’ve approached their cross-examination of the mother-in-law, father-in-law and even Lindsay’s with more care and be seen as people that really care for the children. They couldn’t even say sorry for the loss of your grandchildren. Instead, they go with do you know Lindsay didn’t want you to watch the children because she didn’t like you? It seems spiteful instead of searching for the truth.

We can have compassion for both, and it’s weird to assume these jurors wouldn’t have also had compassion for Sanders.

I'm not understanding this commenter. Do they think nobody should have compassion for white women for any reason until we solve institutional racism in the justice system? And to think otherwise is disgusting?

I’ve had this same argument with people about publication of juvenile names/mugshots. The other person said it was good for white juvenile suspects to have their mugshots in the media because it happens to kids who aren’t white - my point was that NO juvenile suspect should have that info in the public. The answer is to increase compassion toward equity, not to increase punishment.

Is the jury supposed to reflect the community? I would hope my community could exercise compassion along with common sense.

I’m here. I don’t care what color a person is but I also a realist and know there is bias, there is for a lack of a better term working class, but I also just don’t jump on tha bandwagon she is a female she had this. I need to hear all evidence and I go in with an open mind.

Thank you for continuing your coverage to her case. Access to responsible information is how we make change, and I feel you’re providing that.

I’m very glad you’ll be covering the Latarsha Sanders case. We need far more awareness about how the justice system works or doesn’t work for women and why we need to pay attention to more than just select cases. I’m gaining more knowledge about the legal system from your content and I want to continue to learn more from credible sources.

Apologies if I missed it, but have you spoken about the Keisha Golden case/do you have an opinion as a defence attorney on her pleading guilty to spare her child going through a trial (that I can’t imagine she wouldn’t have been acquitted with the evidence available to the public)? She deserves compassion for sure

I really appreciate the way you explain things! And absolutely agree with your paint that having less compassion is never the answer. I think people get in the feels of things and lose the point. Also, thanks for explaining how less access also means less records to aid her case, very valid!

i am glad your talking about her! I dont see many talking about her! very similar stories but one difference latarsha sanders didn't get the same fair treatment lindsay got and when I heard about it and the same judge same da it really made me think. its good to show this though how these things can really change an outcome and everyone should be entitled to same as the next person no less, 💓

People are seriously loosing it as they said “they didn’t even consider not guilty” … I tried to explain I took the comments as they all agreed she did the act but was hung up on NGRI with the one juror. Thoughts?

Is the Latarsha retrial going to be televised? Is a date set for jury selection? I agree that it is hugely important that those of us who empathize with Lindsay pay just as much attention to Latarsha’s case. I’m also curious to see how Latarsha’s retrial impacts any motions or actions by Reddington moving forward, especially considering both initial trials are from the same judge.

Since the first time I heard you talk about compassion + prosecution, and how you’ll conduct the case if you were prosecutor, my mind went 🤯 because the trial would be totally different
