On Kauai, almost the entire island was left without electricity: about 33,000 out of 36,000 customers of the local power company were left without power. Kauai was affected most severely. Debris from trees, rocks, and rubble appeared on the roads, and some sections were completely flooded. Powerful storm surges and waves destroyed part of the coastline in Poipu, Hanapepe, and Waimea. In Hanapepe, the water reached the stadium and sports fields, while the coastal road was practically washed away. The pier in Waimea was seriously damaged, and in Port Allen harbor, docks were damaged and several vessels sank. In Lower Limahuli on Kauai, nearly 16 inches (406 mm) of rain fell, and Hanalei recorded 17.76 inches (451 mm). Wind gusts reached up to 92 mph (148 km/h).
