@zerodollarcoaching: There's a massive line between setting healthy workplace boundaries and being a terrible teammate. Boundaries protect you from getting taken advantage of, but refusing to help a struggling coworker just tells me you're not ready to lead. #businessowner #leadership #management
Nope. Hire enough people for specific roles that that person isn't crunched. Your failure to properly staff, is not my obligation to step into another job description.

i get what you're saying but that is a slippery slope. I've been the guy that jumped in to help "when they needed it" and it quickly turned into my responsibility all the time.

for ANY extra work, you'll need to discuss extra pay. We are doing the minimum otherwise.

I made this mistake recently. Someone quit and I was asked to help cover their location until a replacement was found. (About a month was the expectation) now it’s been 4 months and I haven’t even heard of any interviews happening.

I think this is a pretty fair. Take on that. As a maintenance crew, we jump in and help each other whenever we get into a pickle, but I do also understand not wanting to bust your butt and get your job done and having to go pick up the slack for someone who plays on their phone all day and doesn’t get their work done . I’m a big believer in giving back what you get for in a crew that helps each other. I’m helping them as well. If I’m in a crew that the guys disappear all day and don’t help each other. I also don’t help.

I love how this video starts with "you can set boundaries and not be forced to do other people's work" and then transitions immediately into "but you need to do other people's work if you finish uo early"

uh no. the person that is supposed to be helping them is you as the supervisor or manager. you are salaried for a reason. if someone got burried and I am not burried YOU didnt do your job and distribute the work load appropriately and/or gave them work they just cant handle. just because I could handle my work doesnt now mean I get to do their distributed work because im more capable. and if im getting it because im more capable then that means I need a pay increase or you need to give them a pay decrease. you dont reward more capable workers with more work lol

Legit question, what if I’m just too good at my job that i finish everything in my area so quickly that others take the whole day to do and then they ask me to help other departments where the slow and lazy people work.
