While it is low and mostly unliveable do remember disability benefits do not end at that allowance, there’s disability rent allowance and food allowances other schemes like free education and supports etc also you can work and be on disability allowance there’s just a set amount of hours/ amount you can do or make and there is places specifically made for hiring only disabled ppl and schemes meant for getting disabled ppl jobs and college placements. Ppl should be applying for a lot of those and doing research.

l went on disability not to long ago .l went on it due stage 3 cancer and l will never be able to work again. lt is very hard with what they give you to live on.and a very hard life.

It’s also crazy that disability allowance is a means tested payment. Sure it would seem if you have a partner/spouse that must mean you no longer need financial independence 🙄

As a taxpayer I don’t mind paying extra for the people that has a disability and carers as carers it’s full time job 7 days a week 12 months a year. Like how do people that are entitled to disability live on €250 aweek like that’s ridiculous. I know a family man that worked all his life up at 6:30am to 6:30pm Monday to Sunday he had taken a stroke last October that has left him on disability allowance. This was huge impact on his mental health his family (he has three children dependent on him) a man that worked all his life no pension and living on €250… crazy

its a joke disability and carers allowance its a 24hr job 7 days a week. The 1st lump sum of winter fuel wont even put 500litres in the tank. Grateful yes but when on low income its a struggle

Absolutely shouldn't be so low when people on this payment are living with illness some sort too and paying exrta for health care products and extras on top there health and living conditions being high and payment being low. its madness if you suffer already its DOUBLE suffering.
