NY post is trash, can’t apply brakes if ALL wheels are not on the ground and or deploy them too late to work.

The brakes didn't engage because the pilot exceeded the landing speed and realized it too late. Notice that the nose gear touched the ground first, followed by the main landing gear; because the landing wasn't executed correctly, the spoilers—which help press the aircraft down onto the runway—failed to deploy. This caused the braking distance to increase significantly. It’s that simple! There’s no need to blame the machinery; the airplane is the safest mode of transport.
