Varun Verma MD :
They’ll be dead in a decade. Like others before them. Apple and Samsung have advanced sensors in their watches & software to match, and the next leap for them is to make smaller devices.

I am a physician and Oura user for over 3 years. When I see patients wearing one, I will ask them about the data and any warnings/ recommendations given to them and then dig deeper to validate/rule out possible health concerns.

Definitely the shell of a healthcare product. Once they improve their algorithm to be as good as a PSG, it’s fully there.

It blows my mind how it’s legal to purchase a medical device and then have to pay on top of that to purchase a subscription model for your OWN data. This same data that’s being used to further improve the company’s own capabilities. Why is this normalized? If it’s being considered a healthcare product, such barriers shouldn’t exist.

For a time Whoop had a device platform called Whoop unite and I really loved it for my elite coaching clients. I love Ware Ables and I find it really awesome to dig into the tech with my patient and help them set goals most of them. Do you have a way to help them track towards daily measurable outcomes and I find this to be some of the most influential data when talking to my patient about their habits I love it! I say yes pay for it more my biggest concern is that healthcare provider should have access to the databases just like the insurance companies do I think it is gatekeeping and unfair that healthcare providers do not have access to the tables to see the trends and data like I would love to have a subscription as a clinician to their back in database to see what lovers are doing what who is influencing health and what ways like to be able to collaborate with other physicians and nurse practitioners and PAs and health coaches who are seeing benefits even Whoop has started doing labs, which I love but I would like to be able to Taylor some of those biomarkers that they are having tested in a way that actually helps me clinically so I think there’s a lot of opportunity and I want to see more of it. I also would love for Patient to be able to have access to that same database, I feel like the privacy for the patient is not really respected as much as it should be and the people who have access to the data are not always the people who care the most about the patient’s wellness.

I use it for sleep only and I'm so disappointed if I forget to charge it or put it on. It's amazing for tracking sleep quantity and quality. It's addicting in that way, so I see why they they are so successful with their subscriptions.

As an anesthesiologist, I asked my pts to remove the ring during anesthesia. I can see it being a point of litigation if the ring records abnormal data during a procedure. I wonder if lawyers can use that recorded data in any way. Maybe I’m just paranoid.
