@andrewtodd.media: This is a 180-degree manual railroad turntable, located in the historic ghost town of Monte Cristo, Washington. It is a rare, fully intact railroad turntable. Installed in 1893 by the Union Bridge Company, it served locomotives and gas cars from 1893 until the line was abandoned in the 1930s. The turntable allowed locomotives on the Everett and Monte Cristo Railway to be uncoupled, manually spun 180 degrees by the crew, and reattached to head back down the mountain toward Everett. Originally, it featured a roofed structure to protect it from heavy Cascade Mountain snow, though only the core turntable mechanism remains. Remarkably, despite being over 130 years old, the hand-powered mechanism still functions today. Hikers who complete the roughly 8-mile round-trip trek (my watch clocked closer to 10 miles) can physically push the wooden and iron beam to rotate the structure. How to Visit The turntable is preserved and maintained by the US Forest Service and the Monte Cristo Preservation Association. To see it: Park at the Barlow Pass Trailhead along the Mountain Loop Highway. Hike or mountain bike 5 miles each way along the old county road/railroad grade. what's crazy is i used to hear this song in the woods at my grandparents place it was once an old mining town stop and the actual town got washed away in the 1800s

Southern railway had one of those up there years ago a turntable I think they might’ve had a 16 stall round house but they turned the engines on the turntable by hand back in like 1896 but the term that they have now was built in 1924 they had three turntables altogether, but the round house is built in 1924 and it was three phase at that time when the power came out for the power to place. They already had their own generator that did, but they still had to have the generator so they said that at first to operate the turntable because part enough electricity to operate that’s what my grandfather told me I’m not really sure.

Monte Christo! Hiked up there with Grandkids. By the time we got into the old town site they was exhausted 😩. Are we there yet? Are we there yet? We sat to have lunch in the grass near this train turn around. Those little nuts were not to tired to push this around a few circles.
