It doesn’t help that MJ first demoed The Way You Make Me Feel in October of 1985, only 4 months after EWTRTW hit #1 in the Billboard charts. I doubt MJ plagiarized it but I suspect he was probably inspired by the shuffle beat.

As a recording engineer and producer I don’t think there has ever been a project that didn’t have a part of a song that didn’t make me think of another song because of its accidental similarity. It’s just going to happen.
