I forgot a side of raw horseradish ordered to go with a medium rare whole blackened pork tenderloin 29 years ago. I respected that order. I still think about it.

CINQUE TERRE TRAVEL TIPS 🇮🇹: 🚊Getting there: you can easily access Cinque Terre by train. I came from Milan which has direct ~3h trains to Monterosso. Trenitalia (the primary train operator in Italy) also has direct connections from Rome, Florence and Pisa (the closest airport)to La Spezia or Levanto (a short ride on the Cinque Terre Express). 🚘Don’t drive - cars are not allowed in the main villages and must be parked outside the center. All villages are easily accessed by express train services or hiking. 🎟️Get the Cinque Terre Pass that includes unlimited train & hike travel. 🥾Don’t miss out on hiking the “blue path” for the best views. It’s a lot of stairs so make sure you have comfortable shoes and are in relatively good shape. You can hike the entire trail (12km from Riomaggiore to Monterosso passing all 5 villages) or do shorter sections between villages (I recommend hiking at least Monterosso to Vernazza). ⛴️Take at least one boat/ferry ride for scenic views of the villages perched on the rocks. 🏨Where to stay: I personally think Monterosso is the most convenient being the only village served by long distance trains and with a “true” sandy beach. I stayed at Hotel Suisse Bellevue (views!) 🍝What to eat: Liguria is the birthplace of pesto so you must try the traditional Trofie al Pesto. Enjoy fresh seaside seafood & fried anchovies. Also must have the local basil gelato. 🍽️Where to eat (book restaurants in advance): -Monterosso: L’Ancora Della Tortuga, Da Eraldo, Taverna Galin, Mike, San Martino. -Manarola: Nessun Dorma is probably THE most popular spot, mainly for aperitivo & its pesto class (with THE view). To secure a spot you have to download the Nessun Dorma app. Trattoria dal Billy was my fave restaurant experience. -Riomaggiore: everyone goes for sunset on the rocks with a pizza in hand from Kepris or fried fish from Tutti Fritti or Il Pescato Cucinato. -Vernazza: Pirata delle 5 Terre & Gelateria Vernazza. -Corniglia: basil gelato at Alberto Gelateria. ✈️I highly recommend visiting during shoulder months, Cinque Terre gets ridiculously crowded during the summer. #cinqueterre #italytraveltips #cinqueterretravelguide #liguria #travelguide
