genuine question, if an engine is too long, couldn't you just mount it to a trailer and run the drive shaft through to the car with a multidirectional driveshaft shoulder? I can't think as to why it wouldn't work

That's not a EMD block. they use round ports for the crankcase and air box. GE never made a 20 cylinder. I don't think it's a C175-20. Doesn't look like MTU either , could be a Cummins QSK 120 but those were never in rail applications . Has to be a marine engine like a Wärtsilä.
