Our devices have had the technical ability to listen to us for years. I’m not convinced every targeted ad comes from secretly recording conversations, because these companies already collect enough behavioral data to predict what we’re interested in. But the fact that devices can now analyze more audio locally definitely makes privacy worth paying attention to.
