Me: The other children have the right to participate without blunt force trauma to the head.

“We don’t do (discipline) at home.” Me: I can see that. I can tell. 😊 Parent: *surprised Pikachu face*

I call it a body break and yes it’s needed! If a child is hitting in a group of children and throwing toys why would I have those children possibly get hurt?

I’ve got questioned like this by my director at an afterschool program- I’m sorry I told you how many times he’s been physically aggressive to other students- he was asked to go sit by himself till he felt his body was calm enough to join us - I then left him with cards- his drawing book and books to look at / but I’m being confronted like I was the one that did something wrong - needless to say not long after that I handed in my resignation

yup. I had so many parents pissed when their kid didnt get to do an activity or get a surprise because they got out in time out. they where 4 and 5. like if you told your kid no at home and made them listen we wouldn't have ti put them in time out.

Expecting a day care to parent your child like you do at home is unreasonable . You are not dealing with a full daycare at home . Taking a breather to calm and regulate is not isolation .

our daycare wants us to do what the parent in this video does. its called conscious discipline, we're not even allowed to say "good job" or other things or else they think the kids will turn out to be people pleasing drug addicts 😭

If a child get's frustrated and a bit 'unruly' we have a 'quiet chair'. If a child acts out against another child we have another chair for a 'thinking chair' as in let's think about what we might do differently next time. This is for my 2 year old class.

if you dont like how the daycare operates, find a new one. oh its hard to find another on short notice? then understand that you signed your child up to be watched by this provider and agreed to the providers policies on discipline qhen you signed rhe contract.

It’s really hard to give kids what they need in a group but I’m confused by your dismissal of unmet needs, etc. The “class bully” in my preschool class THRIVED off of positive interactions and a bit more attention first thing. He never hit, bit or pushed if he had that need met in the morning. Timeout/isolation never worked for him.

Listen, at the end of the day your kid is your kid and you're gonna parent them how you see fit. But you can't expect a teacher to parent each child individually, to how their parents do. The teachers have to have one system that fits for all students. And if your kid is not going to fit into that, or you'll have a problem with that then Idk, maybe homeschool, or find a different school.

Time out isn't just punishment. It helps with overstimulation by just taking them away from the situation and calm down. I even do it with my dogs when they are getting over hyper and need to calm down by going to the crates for a bit. It works even with dogs.

sometimes adults need a timeout too. Remove us or them from a bad situation and calm down/ regulate/ realise we or they're being ducks. Then rejoin the activity with a fresh mindset.

we aren't allowed to give time outs at our center, but we can have them sit by themselves at a table with a sensory toy 🤔
