people who arnt in the AI space don't seem to understand, the cat is out of the bag,the local run open weight models having been released has meant any attempt to regulate is futile. it's like if the Manhattan project had included giving everyone access to how to make them, but how to make them out of things you can buy at a supermarket, and that are staples you can't reasonably remove from circulation

Plus, claiming your tech is "so powerful it could end the world" is the ultimate marketing trick to keep stock prices high and investors hooked. It’s simple: create the fear, control the market, and run off with the profits.
