I worked with the elderly. I knew a woman who held a grudge against her brother for almost 40 years because he gave some nylon stockings he promised her to a girlfriend. she would get to heated when telling the story it seems unreal now but I guess was valid at the time 😂

My grandmother openly doubted the reason why they were rationed. I’ve always wondered if they really rationed them to make parachutes or if this was a way to make the public feel like they were doing their part in the conflict via propaganda.

they need to start making the pretty embroidered heeled one's again. we now produce stockings that can last through multiple uses (Snag Tights, being a good brand i know of. they have pairs with the seam and a heel, but no pretty embroidery). bring back the pretty embroidery!

iirc nylon was also a massive influence on material fetish communities. People LOVED the stuff in a time where leather was scarce and latex clothing didn't quite exist in its current form

I thought it was very interesting that sometimes people would do or have makeup done to mimic the seam on the back of stockings to try to mimic having it on

I knew an older lady and she told me when nylons first came out they were basically indestructible. And then they soon changed them so they’d get runs easily. I’ve felt some old ones and they did seem so much stronger

Stockings became a highly prized gift or trading item when American troops encountered women in Britain, France, Italy, and elsewhere. American GIs were known to give women nylon stockings. After D-Day, the reputation of American soldiers for handing out nylon stockings became particularly strong in France and other liberated areas.
