@cincysymphony: Composer Michael Abels' "Tribute" premiered on November 8, 2001, by the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Marin Alsop. Abels was originally composing an encore to follow Tchaikovsky's Fourth Symphony, but as the tragic events unfolded on September 11, 2001, he became inspired by the heroes and rescue efforts of first responders and abandoned the encore for this new work. Abels did not attempt to depict the horror of the event, but, instead, to offer a picture of the unified spirit of the immediate aftermath. As we take time to reflect and remember the 25th anniversary of this tragic day, we share a performance excerpt of "Tribute" from our "American Mosaic" concert earlier this year. #NeverForget #Cincinnati #Pops #classicalmusic #concert
